CLI command

skarbiec find

Find an item by what you remember about it — its name, the username or email it signs in with, its phone, a site it is for, or with --notes something you wrote in its notes — when you do not remember its id. list --match reads ids and tags only.

Invocation#

Shell
skarbiec find <text> [--notes]

Purpose#

Find an item by what you remember about it — its name, the username or email it signs in with, its phone, a site it is for, or with --notes something you wrote in its notes — when you do not remember its id. list --match reads ids and tags only.

Required inputs and options#

  • One positional: the text, compared regardless of case. It is looked for in context.display_name, the login's sites (as login list reads them, imported addresses included) and the identifying fields username, email, phone, api_user and client_id; --notes adds the item's notes (context.notes, as the notes command keeps them).

Output and state effects#

  • Opens each live item and prints ok, text, items (item, kind and matched, the names of the places that matched, notes among them with --notes) and unreadable (item and error). Passwords, keys, tokens, seeds and recovery codes are never compared and never printed, and no matching value is printed either: the answer says where, not what. It writes nothing. POST /v1/operator/items/find takes text and an optional notes; Desktop's Items shows it as Find by name, username or site, with Also look in notes.

Refusals#

  • A missing or blank text exits 2 with the usage. An item that will not open, or whose payload holds no fields object, is listed under unreadable with its error rather than left out, because a missing row would read as nothing matching there.
